Title of Blog: The Effectiveness of
Agile Testing Quadrants
Blog Text
Agile testing can be
useful in any group-oriented project.
Though it may seem like a simple outline, the results can prove quite advantageous
to any group who is trying to make the most optimized version of their
product. The agile testing quadrants are
a series of four boxes that indicate the features of the project that are
working and not working, as well as group practices that should continue to be
done and practices that should be put to a stop. Giving any group the ability to delineate
their strengths and weaknesses on paper can improve the group as whole.
A study was conducted that
tested the effectiveness of the agile testing quadrants on a large-scale
software testing project. Because
software constantly has to be maintained and changed due to arising complexity,
it is imperative that software engineers are able to identify potential weaknesses
in their product immediately and be able to enhance the product for their customers. This study says “Our results offer new evidence that agile
testing practices actually work, dramatically improving development quality and
productivity,” (Talby). The software was
eventually used to aid the Israeli Air Force in their endeavors to more reliable
plane maneuverability software.
This is relevant to my
group’s project because recently my group has had to make a huge overhaul. Our original plan was to create a website to
be able to judge 77 finalists on their pitches and be able to sort the data
accordingly. However, during the creation
of the website we realized the intricacies of sorting finalists, so as a group
we decided to change our product to a survey creator called Qualtrics. We found that this survey creation tool that made
sorting the top finalist pitches easy and simple. After all the judges had turned in their
thoughts about a certain pitch, our client would be able to see the results of
the top finalists and also discuss them with the other judges.
Changing from one medium
to another was a big decision. On the
Skype call my team and I were discussing the website’s technicality and our
lack of knowledge on advanced PHP website creation. Using the testing quadrants we were able to
make the big decision to move from the website to Qualtrics. As a team it takes a degree of honesty and
responsibility to be able to start over, however due to the agile testing
quadrants we were able to make the transition smoothly.
